Frequently Asked Questions
All policies are non-negotiable. Please do not put our staff in the difficult position of making an exception. We value all of our students and strive to treat each and every one in the same consistent and professional manner. We do not offer preferential treatment to any customer for any reason, because that would not be fair to everyone else.
What is your class pricing?
Pricing is the same in both Denver & Boulder, and can be found at the bottom of the schedule page. You may use your class-package hours for both interchangeably.
Can I try out a class first?
Our Bollywood classes are taught semi-cumulatively, in that we spend 2-3 weeks working on a particular dance. In order to get a more realistic feel for the class, we find it takes more than a single-class experience. We offer a 4-class package so that new students can try out the class a few times and become familiar with the warmup and class pacing, learn a few choreography sequences, and then make a better assessment of how they enjoy the class, at a more “workshop” priced tuition package. You should still email us to check availability in the class/time/location of your choice.
Can I come watch a class, instead of taking a drop in class?
Unfortunately, no; for safety and liability reasons, we do not permit guests or observers in the studio or waiting areas, during our classes.
What if I don’t miss class, but I’ll be late?
Again, life happens and sometimes we all get late-- We’re glad you’ll still make it to class, though! Please be discreet when you come in, and stand toward the back of the group when you join in for warmup. It’s universally understood that if you come into a dance class late, you’ll enter quietly and without distraction to the class already in progress. You can go always go back to stand in your ‘favorite’ spot or closer to the front when we regroup after warmup.
When and where are classes held?
Our complete schedule and locations, with google map links, are on our schedule page. Please check your studio location/directions before your first class so you do not get lost or late. We want you to make it to class!
Can I take class in one location/day and then next week come in another location/day, or can come to more than one of each class per week?
Yes, absolutely! Your class hours are good for any Bollywood West class, and in any location. Mix it up—please just check with us ahead of time, to make sure there is space in the class(es) of your choice.
Are Bollywood West classes only in Colorado?
At this time, yes. But if you can’t make it into class, you can get on our interest list for our instructional DVDs
How do I sign up for classes?
Click here to fill out our online registration form. You will receive an enrollment confirmation email from us, confirming availability in the class of your choice and with the next available class start date. Submission of the registration form is not your class enrollment confirmation.
Can I pay for classes with a credit card?
We are able to accept Mastercard, Visa and debit card payments via Paypal. This method is most secure, as we are never given access to students’ credit card information. Credit card payments must be completed by 4:00pm, on the day of your class, otherwise please make arrangements to pay by cash or check (payable to Bollywood West) at the studio. We cannot accept credit card payments onsite, unfortunately.
*Returned checks are subject to an NSF fee, and further payments must be made by cash or certified funds only.
What should I wear to class?
Unless we’re doing "Dil To Paagal Hai", this isn’t a leotard-and-tights with matching legwarmers type of class. Most students wear yoga clothes, t-shirts, tank tops, sweats, or other decent/appropriate activewear; as long as you are comfortable and can move around easily. Most women also find it a good idea to wear a sports bra or similar support.
As for footwear, all of our studios have a "No Street Shoes" policy to protect the specialty dance flooring, so please don’t wear your regular shoes in class. You are welcome to dance barefoot, or try dance sandals, jazz shoes, or a dansneaker. Athletic shoes are permitted, so long as they are not worn for other/outside activities and have a non-marking sole (most major-brand shoes will indicate so on the sole).
How difficult are Bollywood West classes?
Within a class, there will be variations in choreography given, to accommodate more- and less-experienced students. Students are encouraged to ask for alternative choreography to accommodate their experience levels and/or physical abilities. We don’t want to frustrate our students, nor do we wish to bore them.
Do I need dance experience to take a Bollywood West class?
While prior experience is not required, we recommend class for dancers with previous background in any other major world style. Not just for the prior experience of some type of dance, but also to understand the basic student expectations and responsibilities—This is a cultural dance class, not a gym class. For example, to understand the basic etiquette and discipline in a dance class, what warm-up is and why we do it, and that the pace of the class is based on students asking questions or saying “can we slow down?” as needed—our responsibility is to teach you some fantastic dances, but we can only gauge the pace to teach at when our students are actively involved in the class.
Do you teach children or teen classes?
At this time we do not teach any children. Our classes are for adults over the age of 18, although exceptional 16 and 17 year old dancers with prior intermediate-to-advanced level training may be granted admission on an individually-evaluated basis, and with written parental consent. Exception is granted solely at the discretion of the Artistic Director.
Can I join the performing group?
Students are selected for the performing company by the instructor and/or invited to audition. We typically like for students to be regularly active in Bollywood West classes for 6-8 months, prior to consideration for the performing company, even with prior dance experience. We highly recommend attending every weekly class, so that you can experience the full range of our choreography and styles, as well as build your stamina and repertoire for performing. Our performing troupe requires a strict commitment to attend classes regularly, as well as rehearsals, during the event season. (March-September) If you are interested in being considered for the performing company, please mention it to us!
